PROPERTIES OF ALLOY 601

Alloy 601 is notable for its excellent oxidation resistance, especially at high temperatures. It is commonly used in industrial furnace components, petrochemical applications and thermal processes. When welding Alloy 601, CEWELD® NiCro 601 is generally used as filler metal. This ensures consistent properties and corrosion resistance throughout the weld zone, maintaining the integrity and performance of the material. In some cases, CEWELD® NiCro 600 can also be used as an alternative filler metal.

Alloy 601 is corrosion resistant to the following corrosions:

High-Temperature Oxidation Resistance: Alloy 601 provides excellent resistance to high-temperature oxidation, making it suitable for applications in extreme heat and oxidative environments.

Sulfur-Containing Environments: Alloy 601 exhibits good resistance to sulfur-containing atmospheres, which is important for applications in petrochemical and other industries where sulfur compounds are present.

Carburization Resistance: It is highly resistant to carburization, a type of corrosion that occurs in high-temperature environments with carbon-rich atmospheres.

Aqueous Corrosion Resistance: Alloy 601 demonstrates resistance to corrosion in a variety of aqueous environments, including freshwater, seawater, and mild acidic or alkaline solutions.

Chloride-Ion Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) Resistance: Similar to Alloy 600, Alloy 601 offers good resistance to chloride-ion stress corrosion cracking, a type of corrosion that can occur in the presence of chlorides at elevated temperatures.

Alloy 601 is commonly used in applications such as furnace components, heat treating equipment, petrochemical processing, gas turbine parts, and for thermal processing equipment in industrial furnaces. It's essential to consider specific operating conditions, temperatures, and the type of corrosive environment when selecting materials to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
